Where to Go For Happy Hour Near UMD | A Student Guide

As one of the liveliest college towns in the DMV area, the University of Maryland offers students more than just great academics. It also delivers a strong lineup of food, drinks and social spots. 

For many UMD students, exploring the local restaurant and bar scene is part of the full College Park experience. And if you’re trying to have fun while sticking to a college budget, happy hour deals are one of the easiest ways to enjoy great food and drinks without overspending. 

From casual sports bars to lively patios and social food halls, there are plenty of places around College Park with student-friendly specials. Below, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite happy hour destinations that every Terp should try at least once. 

1.  The Hall CP

Neighborhood: Central Campus

Distance from Rambler: 4-minute drive

Address: 4656 Hotel Drive

Kicking off the list is a social hub in College Park, The Hall CP. The Hall CP offers a lively atmosphere with student-friendly happy hour specials that make it perfect for groups with different tastes:

Wednesday – Friday (4–7 p.m.):

  • $5 off all appetizers
  • $8 Crushes with $6 refills
  • $2 off drafts
  • $2 off cans and bottles
  • $5 green tea shots

2. Looney’s Pub

Looney’s Pub is a well-known destination for students looking for a high-energy sports bar atmosphere. Between big screens, group seating and frequent specials, it’s a classic happy hour choice, especially on game days when the atmosphere picks up. Looney’s regular happy hour runs 2–6 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays and 2–7 p.m. on Fridays, with additional food and drink specials each day of the week:

3. Cornerstone Grill & Loft

A long-standing favorite among UMD students, Cornerstone blends casual dining with a social bar vibe. Its central location makes it an easy meetup spot between classes and evening plans, making it the kind of place you’ll likely visit multiple times throughout the semester. Cornerstone is a student staple, so be sure to take advantage of their happy hour specials with your friends.

Known as a staple of the College Park scene, Terrapin’s Turf has been a favorite gathering spot for Terps for years. Its laid-back atmosphere makes it ideal for casual hangouts with friends and student-friendly happy hour deals. Enjoy daily specials catered to your vibe:

Taco Tuesday:

RJ Bentley’s is practically a rite of passage for UMD students. Known for its social atmosphere, it’s a go-to for celebrations, game days and casual nights out. You’ll almost always run into classmates here, especially on busy evenings.

Happy hour at RJ Bentley’s runs Tuesdays through Saturdays from 4–7 p.m. offering 20% off drinks, and food specials on select days.

8. Dog Haus Biergarten College Park
