Whether it’s posing with your acceptance letter or in your cap and gown, the ‘M’ is a must-see and must-photograph for past and future Terps.
2. Testudo

Address: 7649 Library Lane
Beloved by all, Testudo is famous for bringing good luck to students who rub his nose before exams. Representing not just UMD’s diamondback terrapin mascot, but also a time-honored tradition, Testudo is a perfect photo partner and photo-op for turtle-lovers and Terps alike. Don’t forget to tag him in your Instagram post and rub his nose for good luck.
3. Memorial Chapel

Address: 7744 Regents Drive
As the highest point on campus, the Memorial Chapel Steeple is an iconic landmark that serves as a guiding star across UMD. Reflecting the Georgian architecture characteristic of College Park, the iconic steeple has become a staple for prospective Terps and alumni coming to enjoy the scenery. Enjoy a walk around the Garden of Reflection and Remembrance or get lost in thought in the steeple’s granite labyrinth. If you come around noon, you can even hear UMD’s alma mater ring from the steeple’s bells!
4. McKeldin Mall

Address: 7998 Regents Drive
At the heart of UMD’s campus lies the nine-acre McKeldin Mall, complete with the 250-foot long Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) Fountain. Showcasing the sprawling lawns of UMD’s campus, its historic architecture and the sheer size of its outdoor amenities, McKeldin Mall is the perfect place to sit down, relax or take an iconic photo. You can even check off one of your “The ‘M’ Book” bucket list items as a UMD student by dipping your toes in the ODK fountain.
5. William E. Kirwan Hall

Address: 4176 Campus Drive
While not as grand or historic as the ODK Fountain, don’t count out the William E. Kirwan Hall scenery for your tour around UMD’s best photo-ops. Pose against the stately columns and classic lines of the Kirwan Hall mathematics building or take a seat alongside the courtyard’s fountain for an aesthetic glimpse into UMD life worthy of any Instagram.
6. Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center

Address: 8270 Alumni Drive
To finish out your photography tour of UMD, stopping at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center is a must-do for its modern interior, geometric architecture and warm lighting. Ready to take your adventure on the road? These spots stay close to campus while giving you the out-and-about aesthetic that’s sure to spice up your feed.
7. “The Last Goldfish” Mural

Address: 7415-B Baltimore Avenue
One of the easiest off-campus photo-ops to reach lies on the side of the Popeye’s on Baltimore Street. The piece is a reference to Henry Bishop, who created his legacy by leasing ponds in the 19th century and breeding millions of goldfish on the land that is now partly Lake Artemesia. Bishop transformed the aquatics industry with the introduction of products like the 10-gallon tank and became the largest goldfish supplier of his time. With color-changing strobe lights to pay homage to Bishop’s legacy, this 20-foot, 3-D mural is the perfect artsy photo-op with a side of Maryland history.
8. Lake Artemesia

Address: 8200 55th Avenue
Located only a short 8-minute drive from campus, Lake Artemesia offers walking and biking trails, aquatic gardens and of course, waterfront views across its 38 acres. Whether it’s rippling waves in the background or a shot in the gazebo, Lake Artemesia offers a variety of Instagram-worthy spots and natural lighting to capture Maryland’s beautiful scenery.
