Lake Artemesia is one of the best outdoor escapes near campus. With walking and biking trails surrounding the lake, it’s a great place to unwind after a busy week of classes. Many students visit for casual walks, jogging, picnics or simply relaxing by the water. It’s especially popular during warmer months when students want fresh air without traveling far. 

2. Route 1 Shopping

Route 1 serves as the main shopping and dining corridor near campus. Students frequently explore this area to browse stores, grab food or run errands. Uptown Cheapskate is a standout favorite for students looking for affordable clothing and trendy finds. The convenience of having multiple shops within walking distance makes Route 1 a regular stop throughout the semester. 

3. Riverdale Park Plaza (The Station)

Riverdale Park Plaza is a convenient shopping destination that offers grocery stores, restaurants and everyday essentials. 5. Mall at Prince George’s

6. University of Maryland Farmers Market

One of the most enjoyable weekly traditions at UMD is the Farmers Market held every Wednesday from 11–3 p.m. outside Tawes Hall. 7. AMC Theatres

9. Herbert Wells Ice Rink
